About Me:
Hi! I'm Anna. I've been taking art with Mrs. Cross since freshman year and I've loved every second! This program has pushed my boundaries and out of my comfort zone as an artist, and I've loved every second of it. I started high school wanting to cling to my watercolor paints and finished it creating clay sculptures and painting a pair of skis. Choosing a favorite memory in that class is so hard! I've enjoyed everything from the weird phrases Mrs. Cross uses (like "we go through paint faster than Sherman through Georgia...never heard that one before) and watching dumb Parks and Rec videos when Claudia was in our class (forks = food rakes). Although art is one of my favorite hobbies, I also take dance, play a lot of music, and love anything outdoorsy or active (but I also love naps).

My Past, present, and future
I attended Wentworth Elementary, and LOVED art there.
I went to Rockingham County Middle School and got to take art with Mr. Williamson in 8th grade which was such a good experience for me.
Now, I'm finishing up my final year at Rockingham County High School. I've loved having art with Mrs. Cross and don't know what I'll do without it!
After high school, I'll be attending NC State University to major in Human Biology.
Who Inspires me?
A few artists and individuals inspire me in my own art, specifically the art of Auguste Rodin. Rodin is my personal favorite artist because of his use of the human form in his sculptures. I first saw Rodin's work at the North Carolina Museum of Art and immediately loved it and his passion for using the human form has inspired my own work. He is an impressionist sculptor, and is often roped into the "modern art" genre as well as "impressionism". I love his piece, "Gates of Hell", because it is so intricate and detailed.
My Art
My favorite media to use as an artist would have to be watercolor, acrylic, and anything mixed media!

This piece, titled "Vail", is acrylic on a pair of skis. It's my most recent project here at Rockingham High and is one of my all time favorites! It's inspired by my trip out west, where I went skiing at Vail for the first time. It's my favorite not only because of the trip it reminds me of, but because it was such a unique project.

Here's an artistic photo of two of my other favorite pieces! The one on top, although his left eye isn't completed, is a watercolor portrait of John John Florence, a famous surfer. Titled "John John", it was my first watercolor portrait and I'm so happy with how it turned out.
The bottom piece, titled "Physiology", is the muscles and tendons of the human back done in sharpie with watercolor overlay. If you really want to get deep, although it is only the anatomy of the body, I titled it "Physiology" because of how the colors move within the piece. I really loved how this piece ended up looking. It's my favorite because it's one of the least planned pieces I've ever done, but has turned out to be one of my favorite works. |
